Wreath laid on behalf of Coleorton parishioners on Sunday 8th November 2020

Government guidelines advised against groups meeting for Remembrance Sunday. However, On Sunday Cllr. Betts attended and laid two wreaths - one on behalf of St Mary's Church and the other on behalf of Coleorton parishioners and, as is our usual custom read out the names of the war dead from Coleorton parish.

Revd. Mary Gregory, Rector of St Mary's Church, Coleorton, writes:

Usually, St Mary's Church and Coleorton Parish Council would be welcoming the village to a simple Act of Remembrance at Coleorton's war memorial. This year, North West Leicestershire District Council have asked us all to 'Remember at Home', rather than risk gathering in numbers and spreading Covid-19 amongst us.

So with the help of local film makers Pudding Bag Productions, we pre-recorded our Remembrance Sunday service. The film, shot in Ashby and in our villages, includes the central Act of Remembrance, together with beautiful prayers, readings and music from the St Helen's choir. See the video on YouTube

KEEPING COLEORTON CLEAN & TIDY

During the last few months our fly tipping champion Cllr. Michael Akroyd has been quietly and diligently working in the background with the local district authority to find a way to reduce incidences of and ultimately stop fly tipping in our village. In the last three years the cost to NWLDC was more than 95k to clear up after fly tips in the Farm Town area with only one successful prosecution. After a spate of seemingly daily fly tips, the incidences have reduced but it is still happening.

Very recently a meeting was held with senior enforcement officials from NWLDC (ultimately fly tipping is the responsibility of the District Council) and the outcome is that they are happy to support and be involved in a working group to address the problem.

The group will comprise NWLDC officials, parish councillors and local residents. The remit for the group will also include the problem of dog waste; this issue has been raised with the Council recently by a local resident.

We would be happy to see more residents from the local community joining the working group; if you are concerned about keeping our lovely village clean and tidy and want to help to protect the environment, please contact Cllr. Michael Akroyd makroyd@coleorton.org.uk who will be happy to give you more information.

We have a Facebook group!

Now, we are not the most technologically adept bunch of people so there may be some blips along the way but please do bear with us - we are learning as we go. It's possible there are some settings we have mis-set or perhaps are not even aware of so to all you Facebook gurus out there, we're happy to receive your thoughts.

We look forward to being joined by many residents of our great community as members of the Facebook group.

Cllr.Ann Stafford

About Coleorton Parish

Coleorton Parish includes the villages of Coleorton, Coleorton Moor, Church Town and Farm Town as well as parts of Peggs Green, Griffydam and Lount. The Parish Plan survey in 2008 found that parishioners felt communication of information throughout the parish was not effective and so a website was set up to address this. The website has now become a centre of information about activities and events in and around Coleorton, local clubs and organisations, a directory for local businesses and services and a platform for people who would like to share their enthusiasm for local history and the environment.

If you would like to contribute any item about Coleorton or surrounding areas or add details of your club, organisation or event (no charge) or have any suggestions for items on this website please email webmaster@coleorton.org.uk.

Local businesses and services

Coleorton residents are an enterprising bunch: the latest Coleorton businesses listed in the local services directory include IT specialists, photographers and dog walkers. Email webmaster@coleorton.org.uk if you would like your local business listed (free of charge for Coleorton-based businesses or owners).
