2016/17 Annual Report

Constitution

  • 6 councillors served throughout the year: Cllrs Michael Specht (Chair), John Cotterill (Vice Chair), Martin Farrand, Michael Akroyd, Terry Betts & Colin Smith.
  • Rhonda Dean resigned as Joint Clerk with effect from 30th June 2016. Andrew Hogsden (who had been acting as Joint Clerk with Rhonda Dean) was appointed as sole Clerk with effect from this date.

Activities

  • Work has been undertaken to restore Bradfords Lane, to clear the brambles on Overton Close and to undertake corrective work for the play equipment on the Peggs Green Recreation Ground.
  • Volunteer groups have made good progress at New Lount and in Coleorton Wood culminating in the launch of the New Lount Heritage Trail on 13th May 2017.
  • New Lount Pottery Boards were erected in May 2016.
  • The Annual Litterpick took place in March 2017 which was successful at all 3 locations.
  • The Parish Council are working with North West Leicestershire with a view to reduce the incidence of fly tipping in the Parish.
  • The bus shelter on the Ashby Road was re-built by Walter Moss in July 2016 after it had been knocked down when a car drove into it the previous winter.

Communications

  • A revamp of the website is being undertaken. This was driven by the fact most visits were via a tablet or mobile phone and those visits were shorter than desktop users. The site will be made more responsive so the page would look differently depending on the device being used.
  • Typically between 3,000 and 4,000 pages are viewed on the web site per month from around 750 - 950 visitors.
  • There were 129 names on the e-newsletter mailing list at April 2017

Finance

  • The Precept was 14,348 for the year and 4,800 insurance was received for the re-building of the bus shelter.
  • The spend gross of VAT was 20,571 including 5,760 (4,800 net) on the re-building of the bus shelter on the Ashby Road. Other significant areas of spend include repairs to the play equipment on the Peggs Green Recreation Ground of 2,520, Installation of the Lount Pottery Boards, 1,344, staff costs of 3,816, and grounds maintenance of 3,628.

Parish Council AGM

Meeting Summary

  • The Annual Meeting of Coleorton Parish (see above) was held with reports on Council activities and finances and from the Heritage Warden and the Webmaster. The successful launch of the Industrial Heritage Trail at the New Lount Nature Reserve was noted.
  • The use of Coleorton Wood by Viscount Beaumont School for the benefit of the children's eduction was granted.
  • Permission was also given for a scientific experiment to be undertaken in the wood by a post graduate research student at Loughborough University.
  • The play area surface on the Peggs Green Recreation ground has been pressure washed with the help of Eurovia Contracting.
  • Two crimes were reported in the Parish in the month of April.
  • Next meeting: 13th July, 7.30pm at the Beaumont Centre
