HS2 route changes and major railhead and workings proposed

HS2 Ltd have launched a consultation (which closed on 6 September) on route "refinements" around junction 13 of the A42 and on the location of a Temporary Rail Head at Ashby de la Zouch. Actually the Temporary Railhead area stretches from J13 along the A511 right down to the junction with The Moorlands. This scheme would connect into existing Leicester - Burton rail line in order to bring in heavy and very large items - so makes sense to HS2 project team. However the area designated is huge and will take a lot of agricultural land and woodland.

There are also significant changes on the Melbourne Road route up towards Lount.

The Parish Council has compiled responses to the consultation, one to the "refinements" consultation and a separate document relating to the proposed temporary railhead.

Parish Council responses and other details can be found on HS2 section of our planning page >>

Leicestershire County Council have issued a response. Their response which covers a wider geographic area than just Coleorton, is well worth a read. They go into considerable detail over environmental and heritage issues and footpaths. Read their response - link from HS2 section of our planning page >>

coleorton parishParish Boundary

You may find it quite odd that The Woolrooms is not actually in Coleorton Parish, but Worthington, and so is the area of Lower Moor Road between brook in the dip and Rempstone Road. The current boundary is the result of changes made over several centuries for reasons long forgotten and quite irrelevant now. Some locals feel it's time to take another look so a petition has been raised to support a request for a change. Read more about proposed changes >>. The petition is available at Coleorton Post Office. You can also email comments to Andrew Hogsden Clerk to the Council at

About Coleorton Parish

Coleorton Parish includes the villages of Coleorton, Coleorton Moor, Church Town and Farm Town as well as parts of Peggs Green, Griffydam and Lount. The Parish Plan survey in 2008 found that parishioners felt communication of information throughout the parish was not effective and so a website was set up to address this. The website has now become a centre of information about activities and events in and around Coleorton, local clubs and organisations, a directory for local businesses and services and a platform for people who would like to share their enthusiasm for local history and the environment.

If you would like to contribute any item about Coleorton or surrounding areas or add details of your club, organisation or event (no charge) or have any suggestions for items on this website please email
