Coleorton Parish Boundaries

Have you ever wondered why the Woolrooms is not in Coleorton but Worthington Parish or why the new Glaze houses on Nottingham Road in Lount are? There are many historical reasons for where the boundary is now - but it is what it is.

Led by a group of residents, the Council is supporting a process to change the parish boundaries so that they more accurately reflect the village of Coleorton. At the January Parish Council meeting several options were discussed and the map below shows the one most people who attended the meeting felt could be the best. Note: this is not necessarily the final option. There will be a proper process and consultation of all residents, both within the current Coleorton boundary, those who are currently in another parish e.g. Ravenstone, Swannington, Worthington, and would be in Coleorton under the new proposal, and those who are currently in Coleorton but would be in a different parish (e.g. those in The Glaze at Lount, and Sinope). So obviously this is not an easy thing to agree on.

A petition to change the boundaries is being put to local residents and if it receives sufficient signatures a request will be sent to the Community Governance Review at the District Council who will organise the review and consultations.

If you would like to sign a petition to support the change request then this is available at Coleorton Post Office. You can also send comments to Andrew Hogsden Clerk to the Council parishclerk@coleorton.org.uk

Upcoming events in the community

One for sitting & chatting and another for getting some fresh air and making our parish a little prettier (and you can always chat while you're litter-picking!)

The next Beaumont Trust coffee morning is on Wednesday 14 March at 10.30am. Usually about 40 local people and friends turn up at the coffee mornings at the Angel in Coleorton and we always have room for new faces! See the News & Events page >>

Volunteer for an hour on Saturday morning March 17th to help with the Annual Coleorton Litterpick. When you have collected (surprisingly quickly) that black bag full of rubbish you'll get a warm glow of having done something good for the neighbourhood! Litterpick times & places >>

About Coleorton Parish

Coleorton Parish includes the villages of Coleorton, Coleorton Moor, Church Town and Farm Town as well as parts of Peggs Green, Griffydam and Lount. The Parish Plan survey in 2008 found that parishioners felt communication of information throughout the parish was not effective and so a website was set up to address this. The website has now become a centre of information about activities and events in and around Coleorton, local clubs and organisations, a directory for local businesses and services and a platform for people who would like to share their enthusiasm for local history and the environment.

If you would like to contribute any item about Coleorton or surrounding areas or add details of your club, organisation or event (no charge) or have any suggestions for items on this website please email webmaster@coleorton.org.uk.

Local businesses and services

Coleorton residents are an enterprising bunch: the latest Coleorton businesses listed in the local services directory include IT specialists, photographers and dog walkers. Email webmaster@coleorton.org.uk if you would like your local business listed (free of charge for Coleorton-based businesses or owners).
