WW1 Commemoration

On Sunday 11 November following the Remembrance Day Service at Viscount Beaumont School a service was held at the War Memorial. Andrew Hogsden, our parish clerk, read out the names of the fallen who lived in Coleorton and laid a wreath on behalf of Coleorton parishioners.

On Wednesday the children at Viscount Beaumont's School took part in a memorial service at the War Memorial. Children read out a poem, Rev Mary led prayers and 80 plus 5-11 year-olds stood in respectful silence for 2 minutes.

Back at the School we saw some of the pupils' work about WW1, the effects of war and how we can try to achieve peace, and we visited their "Peace Garden". They sang songs from the war years and more recent ballads. Then we all had tea and cakes supplied by Vera McDonald and her team!

Lampost Poppies

As a reminder to us all the Parish Council have erected poppies on lamposts around the village.

New Memorial Bench

The Coleorton and New Lount Volunteer Group have built a new Memorial Bench to replace the old one by the War Memorial which was sadly falling apart. The Group made the bench during their workshop sessions at Snibston. It's a beautiful job - well done and thank you guys and gals!

Have Your Say - surveys & consultations

There are a number of consultations in place regarding issues of importance to Coleorton people. Take a look - these consultations are part of the process that councils, government, organisations, etc use to shape future laws and policies. They do matter. If we don't speak out no one will know how we feel and what is important to us.

About Coleorton Parish

Coleorton Parish includes the villages of Coleorton, Coleorton Moor, Church Town and Farm Town as well as parts of Peggs Green, Griffydam and Lount. The Parish Plan survey in 2008 found that parishioners felt communication of information throughout the parish was not effective and so a website was set up to address this. The website has now become a centre of information about activities and events in and around Coleorton, local clubs and organisations, a directory for local businesses and services and a platform for people who would like to share their enthusiasm for local history and the environment.

If you would like to contribute any item about Coleorton or surrounding areas or add details of your club, organisation or event (no charge) or have any suggestions for items on this website please email
