More details of HS2 route and construction plans

HS2 have issued a number of fact sheets and maps to support their public information sessions. If you missed the earlier ones there is a meeting in Measham on Thursday 12 July, 2pm - 8pm, at Measham Leisure Centre.

The important parts for Coleorton residents are the re-routing of the A512 and the consequent upheaval to journeys to Ashby and to J13, and the crossing of the HS2 route on the Melbourne Road up by Lount. No details of when this is likely to take place, but a few years away yet I guess. Take a look at the maps and comments >>

Crime Prevention ItemsCrime Prevention in Coleorton

We are lucky to live in a relatively peaceful and crime-free area. In April there were 3 "incidents" in the parish (see Police Report for April>>). However, not altogether without problems. Last week there was a break-in on Loughborough Road where the criminals just walked in through an open side door while the residents were sitting in the back garden and went off with valuables and treasured items. Of course the police will say that the doors - and windows - should all be locked whatever the weather and however close you are to the house. But it's not a nice way to live, especially if you have kids running around in the sunshine, in and out of the paddling pool and house.

However, it does bring to attention the fact that not everyone is as honest as we are, and there are lots of opportunist ne'er-do-wells out there who will take advantage. So we need to be alert and as careful as we can be.

At the parish council meeting last week the subject was on the agenda and it was agreed that a public meeting with the local beat police providing advice would be worth while. We also have a volunteer Crime Prevention Champion - Colin Jones - who has a stock of items that may help to keep us and our valuables safe. See Coleorton Crime Prevention >> for more details, and KEEP SAFE & SECURE during the Summer!

About Coleorton Parish

Coleorton Parish includes the villages of Coleorton, Coleorton Moor, Church Town and Farm Town as well as parts of Peggs Green, Griffydam and Lount. The Parish Plan survey in 2008 found that parishioners felt communication of information throughout the parish was not effective and so a website was set up to address this. The website has now become a centre of information about activities and events in and around Coleorton, local clubs and organisations, a directory for local businesses and services and a platform for people who would like to share their enthusiasm for local history and the environment.

If you would like to contribute any item about Coleorton or surrounding areas or add details of your club, organisation or event (no charge) or have any suggestions for items on this website please email webmaster@coleorton.org.uk.

Local businesses and services

Coleorton residents are an enterprising bunch: the latest Coleorton businesses listed in the local services directory include IT specialists, photographers and dog walkers. Email webmaster@coleorton.org.uk if you would like your local business listed (free of charge for Coleorton-based businesses or owners).
