Have your say about what happens

Good heavens - another election on Thursday! Difficult to say whether a vote for MEPs to represent the East Midlands will be worthwhile. But it is an opportunity to have your say, just in case we're still IN this time next year! Make sure you know who is standing and how to cast your vote >>

Also on that page is a link to the results of the District Council elections.

New Parish Councillors

The Parish Council has 6 members, and at the recent local elections 2 previous members stood down. Two new candidates came forward but because there were only two they became councillors without the need for an election. Being a parish councillor is an important, voluntary, job and it isn't easy trying to manage the requirements and expectations of the parishioners with limited resources - both financial and time. So welcome Ann Stafford and Rich Hughes. Your enthusiasm, ideas and commitment will bring new energy to Coleorton Parish council. About Coleorton Parish councillors >>

Planning Applications

There's always a bit of interest when new-build houses or significant modifications or extensions are proposed. Some people are happy, others would prefer the status quo. Applications for development within the parish are sent to the council and are discussed at parish council meetings. If there is concern or comments to be made the Parish Clerk sends these in to the District Planning Department for consideration. However, it is worth noting that anyone can make a comment or objection to an application, whether within the parish or not, and individual comments and objections have just as much weight as that of the parish council. So let the parish council know your views on proposed developments, but also contact the planners directly yourself. Details on our planning page >>

Note: one recent planning application received several critical comments which resulted in changes to the specification. So it does work.

About Coleorton Parish

Coleorton Parish includes the villages of Coleorton, Coleorton Moor, Church Town and Farm Town as well as parts of Peggs Green, Griffydam and Lount. The Parish Plan survey in 2008 found that parishioners felt communication of information throughout the parish was not effective and so a website was set up to address this. The website has now become a centre of information about activities and events in and around Coleorton, local clubs and organisations, a directory for local businesses and services and a platform for people who would like to share their enthusiasm for local history and the environment.

If you would like to contribute any item about Coleorton or surrounding areas or add details of your club, organisation or event (no charge) or have any suggestions for items on this website please email
